George Washington. February 22, 1732 – December 14, 1799,
George was part of a large family. He was the first of 6 children of Augustine & Mary Washington. He married Martha Dandridge on January 6, 1759. They never did have any children together. Washington’s first public office, from 1749 to 1750, was as surveyor of Culpeper County, Virginia. He subsequently received his first military training and was assigned command of the Virginia Regiment during the French and Indian War. He was later elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses and was named a delegate to the Continental Congress,

On December 14, 1799, George Washington died, He was place is a tomb on his Mount Vernon estate. The remains of his wife, Martha Dandridge Custis, as well as 25 other family members, are also entombed there. In 1831 a new tomb was constructed after an attempt was made by vandals to steal Washington’s body from Washington’s family tomb.
